Are you feeling unwell after taking probiotics? In rare cases, taking probiotics can cause an initial worsening of symptoms. However, this is not a bad thing. An initial worsening occurs when existing symptoms intensify for a short time, or new symptoms appear, before the condition improves. The cause of an initial worsening is often that the body's own detoxification is accelerated, resulting in the production of large amounts of metabolic waste products. This puts a strain on the organism and leads to an initial worsening.
In the following article, you will learn more about the initial exacerbation and its symptoms, its context with the skin, how long it might last, and how to prevent an initial exacerbation with probiotics.
Symptoms of probiotic initial worsening
Symptoms that may occur during initial aggravation with probiotics include:
- flatulence
- Diarrhea
- Blockages
However, these symptoms should subside and disappear after a few days or weeks. It's important to closely monitor your symptoms and consider whether there are any external factors that could be contributing to the discomfort.
For example, we recommend keeping a symptom diary and writing down exactly what new symptoms have developed since taking the probiotics. This will allow you to see how the symptoms behave over time, what triggers them, and whether they improve.
Initial worsening in the context of the skin
The skin This is often a point where an initial worsening may be visible after taking probiotics. You may have heard that the skin is a mirror of the gut. This is true here too! If an initial worsening occurs, your skin may reflect this.
Duration of probiotic initial worsening
The symptoms usually don't last longer than a few days or weeks. After that, they should subside. The intestinal flora has been regulated by the probiotic strains, and the desired balance of the various bacterial strains within the intestinal flora now prevails.
If symptoms persist for more than two weeks, we recommend reducing the dose. If you tolerate the small dose well, you can gradually increase back to the recommended dosage. Simply open the capsule, add half to a glass of water, and drink it quickly.
If symptoms persist after weeks and after reducing the dosage, this is no longer an initial worsening of symptoms, but rather an intolerance to the product being taken. We recommend discontinuing use of the product.
Quality differences in probiotics
It's important to remember that when talking about probiotics, not every probiotic is the same. Each manufacturer markets its own formula with specific, different bacterial strains. Each bacterial strain has its own unique properties and effects, and when combined with other bacterial strains, new properties emerge. This means that every probiotic product is different.
Dailybacs uses 11 bacterial strains with a total of 60 billion CFUs (colony forming units). Additionally, our products are manufactured in the EU. A particular advantage is that we explicitly list all bacterial strains, not just the genus, thus ensuring complete transparency regarding what our products contain.
