Our glossary
Science has a communication problem. Scientific texts are often difficult to read and the terms are difficult for us to understand. At the same time, simple statements are often misunderstood. We believe that the translation of science is fundamental to human health. The awakening of the inner scientist leads to better questions, better decisions, and better health.
Collapsible content
A
Scientific definition
Developed non-responsiveness to antibiotics.
mybac's translation
Pathogenic microorganisms can evolve in such a way that they bypass the harmful mechanism of specific antibiotics and are no longer killed by them. As a result, therapy with the required antibiotics can no longer respond.
B
Scientific definition
A categorical rank in the lineage.
mybac's translation
The term "tribe" is actually a hierarchical level in the taxonomy of living beings. A taxonomy is a classification scheme, i.e. a uniform division that (in biology) systematically records all living beings in a hierarchy. This is: living entity > domain > kingdom > phylum/division > class > order > family > genus > species. Unfortunately, when it comes to bacteria, the term "strain" in German is somewhat misleading or ambiguous. Because when it comes to bacteria, strain does not mean classification into the 4th level of the above hierarchy. Instead, the word strain refers to the lineage of bacteria and describes or subdivides the affiliation to a species (species) and subspecies (subspecies). The bacterial strain in this sense is at the end of the hierarchy below the type/species. In the case of intestinal bacteria, naming the strain is very important, since their functions and effects on our body can vary greatly from strain to strain.
C
D
Scientific definition
Protective mechanism of the intestine that ensures that pathogens from the intestinal lumen do not enter the bloodstream.
mybac's translation
An intact intestinal barrier is very important. You can imagine these a little like intact house walls. If these are in good condition, only good and invited guests will be admitted. However, if the walls are crumbling and riddled with holes, you suddenly have unwanted visitors in the house, who then cause all sorts of unrest. One can also imagine that a permeable intestinal barrier ensures that unwanted substances can get into the intestinal wall and even into the bloodstream and cause inflammatory reactions.
E
Scientific definition
Usually a protein that can accelerate biochemical processes.
mybac's translation
They keep processes running that are absolutely necessary for the balance in the body cells.
F
Scientific definition
Utilization of biological material by microorganisms in the absence of air.
mybac's translation
Fermentation is a fermentation process. This is not alcoholic fermentation (this is how beer is made, for example), but fermentation with the formation of organic acids. Lactose (milk sugar), for example, is broken down into lactic acid by lactobacilli. In addition to these organic acids, fermented foods also contain living microorganisms. Both are very beneficial for the balance of our microbiome.
G
Direct translation
"light up"
mybacs translation
"A positive transformation or metamorphosis on a physical but also emotional level." Our Glow Up AddOn strengthens your skin, hair and nails from the inside out.
H
I
J
K
Scientific definition
Risks affecting the cardiovascular system.
mybac's translation
Cardiovascular risks include numerous factors that have a dangerous effect on the circulatory system, the vascular system and the heart. These range from elevated blood lipid levels to metabolic diseases. Since disease symptoms of the cardiovascular system can massively reduce the quality of life and life expectancy, it is very important to take preventive care of this life-sustaining system. Personal lifestyle (nutrition, exercise/sport, use of harmful substances such as nicotine) plays a special role here. Probiotics and prebiotics (such as polyphenols) have shown a positive effect on this system and have a supporting effect.
KBEs
Scientific definition
Colony Forming Units: Unit and method for quantification of living microorganisms.
mybac's translation
The intestinal bacteria that we use are cultivated in an appropriate environment and added to the capsules in precise doses. The unit KBE is used for this. At 60 billion CFUs, we have a higher dosage than most other probiotic suppliers on the market. We have chosen the dosages so that they correspond to the dosages from the respective clinical studies.
Clinical Studies
Scientific definition
Experimental tests of treatment methods in several stages and under certain framework conditions.
mybac's translation
The selected bacterial strains go through different phases of predefined experimental studies on patients. The bacterial strains contained in the Dailybacs have been tested in such studies for their effectiveness and safety.
L
Scientific definition
This syndrome describes the clinical picture of a non-intact intestinal barrier and subsequent effects. The symptoms are caused by chronic inflammation.
mybac's translation
Although this clinical picture has not yet been fully clarified in its entirety, there are connections with the development of chronic fatigue and other diseases with the leaky gut syndrome. The intestinal barrier is disturbed and permeable to substances that should not pass under normal circumstances. These passed through the bloodstream into the entire organ system.
Level Up
Direct translation
"Promote"
mybac's translation
"Raise your entire body system to a new level of well-being through increased energy and immunity." Our Level Up AddOn supports the function of your immune system with selected, natural ingredients. Level Up is the perfect combination of valuable minerals, trace elements and vitamins, enriched with exceptional grape seed and cat's claw extracts to boost your immunity - from the inside out. In addition to your Dailybacs, the ingredients are specially designed to arm your body against unwanted pathogens and boost your energy.
M
Scientific definition
An intermediate or end product of metabolism.
mybac's translation
The metabolism can be imagined as a building project, new building blocks or building objects are constantly being added that have to be dismantled or reassembled. The intermediate or finished product at the end of the processes is called metabolite in metabolism.
microbiome
Scientific definition
The microbiome includes all of the bacteria in a system..
mybac's translation
In most cases, we report on the gut microbiome, which is all of the gut bacteria in your digestive system. However, there are other systems that are colonized by numerous bacteria, e.g. the skin microbiome or that of the respiratory tract.
microorganism / microbe
Scientific definition
Both words describe a microscopically small organism, so to speak.
mybac's translation
These include bacteria (e.g. lactobacilli, bifidobacteria), microscopic algae and protozoa. In general, we report on the bacteria, especially the bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, which are also contained in the Dailybacs.
lactic acid bacteria
Scientific definition
These bacteria are found in humans and animals and colonize the digestive tract here. One of their tasks is to break down carbohydrates into lactic acid. They are also found in milk and form the basis for the production of cheese, yoghurt, etc.
mybac's translation
Lactic acid bacteria support the fermentation process. So they support the process of breaking down lactose into lactic acid. They support the digestive system and can also improve the symptoms of lactose intolerance. In addition, there are many other processes that are carried out or supported by the specific bacterial strains that have a health-promoting effect.
Mood Up
Direct translation
"Lift the spirits"
mybac's translation
"A weapon against stress - paired with a natural boost to your daily mood." Our Mood Up formula is the perfect combination of unique plant extracts and B vitamins to lift your mood - from within outward. In addition to your Dailybacs, the ingredients are specifically designed to stimulate the right hormones to protect your nerves, lower your stress levels and cortisol levels to in turn boost and balance your mood.
Mineral
Scientific definition
Minerals are inorganic nutrients that have a vital function but must be ingested with food because the body cannot produce them.
mybac's translation
Minerals play an important role in cellular balance. In order to maintain the cell functions, they are in constant work to maintain the balance of substances. Minerals (e.g. zinc) play a decisive role here. However, minerals are not produced by the body itself, they have to be consumed.
N
Scientific definition
Nutrients are organic and inorganic substances that support life and are used in the body's metabolic processes.
mybac's translation
Our digestion splits our food and all other ingested substances into the smallest individual parts, since only these are absorbed into the bloodstream and from here can get into the entire body, where they are then needed for energy supply or for metabolic processes.
O
P
Scientific definition
Pathogen as an adjective means disease-causing, but can also describe a pathogen as a noun. Pathogenic agents are, for example, viruses, fungi or parasites.
mybac's translation
Pathogens describe the influences that can lead to the development of a disease or to a defense or inflammatory reaction. The gut plays a major role in immune defense as many substances are absorbed through food or liquids and enter the gut. This leads to a decisive interaction with these substances, because the immune system, which is located in the intestinal wall, is the first to come into contact with substances that have been ingested and has to differentiate which substances are "okay" and which are potentially dangerous and with an immune reaction must be fought.
polyphenols
Scientific definition
Are among the secondary plant substances.
mybac's translation
Polyphenols (such as those found in pomegranates) are among the secondary plant substances. These can be converted into a more active form by the microbiome and thus have an improved effect. It is not for nothing that the pomegranate has been known for centuries in traditional, especially Eastern medicine, for its good effect on the heart and in metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Studies have shown that the bioactive form has antioxidant, immunomodulatory and carcinogenic effects (which counteract the development of cancer).
prebiotic / prebiotics
Scientific definition
Prebiotics are indigestible food components that have a positive effect on the intestinal bacteria and thus have a positive effect on the well-being of the host (in our case humans).
mybac's translation
Prebiotics are often referred to as "food for the intestinal bacteria". While that's correct in a way, it doesn't adequately describe what the actual benefit of prebiotics is. These plant components cannot be broken down by our body's own enzymes. Our intestinal bacteria do this job for us and then convert the prebiotics into a bioactive form, which can then be absorbed by our body. These bioactive forms are very potent substances that have immunomodulatory abilities, are powerful antioxidants and even have anti-cancer potential. As a result, they affect the health of the cardiovascular system, the metabolism, the psyche and much more. You can already intervene preventively here or weaken certain disease processes.
probiotic / probiotics
Scientific definition
Probiatics are living organisms which, when consumed in sufficient quantities, have a positive effect on the organism.
mybac's translation
In our case, the capsules contain selected strains of intestinal bacteria that are cultivated in a pharmaceutically high quality for use in health products.
Q
R
S
Scientific definition
These are (in contrast to the primary nutrients carbohydrates, proteins and fats) components of plants that do not serve to generate energy in our body, but influence other metabolic processes.
mybac's translation
Secondary plant substances (e.g. polyphenols from the pomegranate) serve important metabolic processes and have enormous potential, especially in combination with intestinal bacteria, as they convert the secondary plant substances into a bioactive form and they are thus ideally absorbed and utilized by the organism.
Synbiotic / Synbiotics
Scientific definition
Synbiotics are a combination of probiotics and prebiotics.
mybac's translation
Dailybacs are synbiotics because they are the optimal combination of gut bacteria and "their food". This supplies new, beneficial intestinal bacteria, but also supports the existing microbiome. In addition, the combination of intestinal bacteria and the prebiotic food structures has other health benefits, since ideal biochemical conversions of the food components are created.
T
U
V
Scientific definition
Mechanical and biochemical crushing and processing of ingested food components.
mybac's translation
Under digestion we primarily address the processes in the gastrointestinal tract, in which the intestinal bacteria also play their part. They also break down food components that our own body enzymes cannot break down.
vitamin
Scientific definition
Vitamins are organic substances, i.e. nutrients, which are not used for energy supply, but for other vital metabolic processes.
mybac's translation
Our body can synthesize (manufacture) some vitamins itself, while others must be ingested through food. Vitamin D, for example, is produced by the body itself, but needs an external factor, namely UV radiation. Without this, production cannot take place and at some times this is not sufficient. Be it that the sun doesn't shine much or that we spend a lot of time indoors. Vitamins are essential to support processes in the body that keep the body functioning.
